Invasion

Broken footpaths lining neglected roads,
Ugly posters adorning dirty walls,
Jaded buildings longing for a coat of paint,
Mounds of sand and unfilled pits blocking streets,
Ignoring these relatively insignificant changes,
I walked down memory lane,
reminiscing ever so many wonderful moments,
in the city that is integral to my life

But my pleasant recollections abruptly ended.
As I noticed the indifferent people spitting on the road,
As I saw the callous people flouting traffic rules,
As I observed people dumping garbage in the middle of the street,
As I watched arrogance and impatience cloud the city,
I was overcome by anger and fear.
My city was being stolen from me,
And I wasn't even putting up a fight.
I left Bangalore overwhelmed by guilt,
and a resolve to fight the invasion.
