Broken footpaths lining neglected roads,
Ugly posters adorning dirty walls,
Jaded buildings longing for a coat of paint,
Mounds of sand and unfilled pits blocking streets,
Ignoring these relatively insignificant changes,
I walked down memory lane,
reminiscing ever so many wonderful moments,
in the city that is integral to my life
But my pleasant recollections abruptly ended.
As I noticed the indifferent people spitting on the road,
As I saw the callous people flouting traffic rules,
As I observed people dumping garbage in the middle of the street,
As I watched arrogance and impatience cloud the city,
I was overcome by anger and fear.
My city was being stolen from me,
And I wasn't even putting up a fight.
I left Bangalore overwhelmed by guilt,
and a resolve to fight the invasion.

Yep.. I agree.. But i have some other view points to this..
Do you think Bangalore has changed so much or has your perspectives changed? Was it drastically different last year or has your 'sight' now been trained to detect these things?
I am asking this because i dont think the situation has changed drastically.. It has worsened but not that it was better earlier..
Either way, i also am positive that slowly but surely we will mend our ways. It might take almost a generation to happen but it will.. There are signs that the younger citizens of the city are taking up this cause Eg: The Ugly Indians

The above initiative is not big but definitely a small step towards a better Blore. It will definitely take a lot more, but then change takes time..
In fact even in Singapore it took almost 30 years for them to be the way they are. Even now, there is an army of people cleaning the city in the night for the next day. The current generation are very much into this cleanliness and actually are very conscious about maintaining the city, but if you look at the older generation they still spit on the road, dirty the city and even pee on the roads/lifts of buildings etc..
But the fact is that the govt is in overdrive to maintain the city. With huge labor force they clean the city every night.. That is why one sees a clean and beautiful city the next day..
Anyway we can maybe never expect a govt like Singapore's in Blore but then the culture shift is something that might happen over time.. I hope its sooner rather than later..
I believe creating awareness and being part of some of this initive would definitely go a long way in creating the awareness... Do look at the ugly indian videos and their stories.. i actually see hope..;)
Aptly said :)
I feel the same way visiting Mumbai.
