Art of design

Crafted to perfection, with an obsession to detail,
Indulging the senses, yet uncompromisingly utilitarian,
Neither flamboyant nor frugal,
Appeasing the dreamer and cynic alike,
Satisfying a common need, yet exclusive in its appeal,
A wonderful balancing act and game of strategy,
Where the consumer is as engaged as the creator,

I am a patron of the arts,
Not painitings or sketches,
Not music or theatre,
But the art of product design

Wiping the layers of dust that mask the paper,
Freeing the pen entangled in the cobweb,
Letting fresh air dilute the musty smell,
I wait patiently..
for thoughts to fill the mind,
for the battle to ensue,
for the strongest to claim its rightful place,
In the pages of this journal.

When the hiatus is long,
It takes time
to rekindle the fire,
to restore faith,
to rebuild reputation,

But I wait patiently..
For there is no progress without challenge,

And no victory without a crusade,

Perfect Circle!

Myriad ideas from around the world,

Fighting to find expression,
A single object, viewed in varied perspectives,
Creating a series of different images,
The unrestricted thought process of a diverse pool,
Translated by an eloquent tutor into perfect language constructs,
The distinction between the tutor and her students is blurred,
Lending linguistic structure to cognition,
To create a delightful symphony,
Involves the students, as much as it does the tutor.

Note: My thoughts as I observed an adult education class at Vision Literacy with  students from 6 different countries learning English. I am motivated to tutor and learn!

To my wonderful Friends

Thanks a million for being..

The Incense that drives away all negative thoughts,
The airbags that avert disaster,
The safety net that reassures me,
The Redbull that pumps me with energy,
The Chandelier that brightens every dull day.

Most of All,
Thank you for being yourselves,
And being there for me!

Defend or Defile?

Causing an epidemic of suspicion,
Massacring individual freedom,
Creating an unrelenting wave of fear,
Risking a lifetime's earnings,

To defeat an enemy,
we inflict upon ourselves,
greater pain than any enemy can.

Invasion

Broken footpaths lining neglected roads,
Ugly posters adorning dirty walls,
Jaded buildings longing for a coat of paint,
Mounds of sand and unfilled pits blocking streets,
Ignoring these relatively insignificant changes,
I walked down memory lane,
reminiscing ever so many wonderful moments,
in the city that is integral to my life

But my pleasant recollections abruptly ended.
As I noticed the indifferent people spitting on the road,
As I saw the callous people flouting traffic rules,
As I observed people dumping garbage in the middle of the street,
As I watched arrogance and impatience cloud the city,
I was overcome by anger and fear.
My city was being stolen from me,
And I wasn't even putting up a fight.
I left Bangalore overwhelmed by guilt,
and a resolve to fight the invasion.

Life!

The mild drizzle,
the freshness in the air,
the enlivened plants,
the musical patter,
invigorate my senses,
to discover the simple joys.

the droplets of water
clear the muddy path,
exposing the narrow strip of road,
covered with the debris of nostalgia
and obstructed by the construction of anticipation

Carefully concealed from the senses,
Strongly controlled by the brain,
the present passes by unlived..
